Guys, I am purchasing a de rigged 1995 XR2001 and have some questions. I know all about how to take 2 12 volt batteries and make 24 volts. What I want to know is which trim pump do I need and how to wire it? Thanks in advance.

you need a Mercruiser pump they have the most pressure. don't know how to make a wire diagram to post here. If you have a pump now I can look up the part number for the pump to use if you don't have a pump you need to find one from a mercruiser,if you want to buy a new one i know a place that has them for great prices.

The pump I have now is stock and staying in the vking for my son to use. I need the complete motor/pump assembly to put in my Allison. Thanks.

you will need two buttons on the steering wheel. one will be 24v up and 12v down. the other will be 12v up and 12v down. this diagram will get you close, but you will need to add a 3rd solenoid for 12v up.

So, Casey this 12 volt dc motor doesn't mind running on 24 volts, just faster? Or am I missing something here. What is the part number for the assembly? Thanks for the input.

Another stupid question, but I am ignorant, that's why I am asking questions. What is the purpose of having 24v up/ 12v down and 12v up/ 12v down. i can't just run 24v up/ 12v down and leave it at that? Thanks in advance.

The 24 is to fast to fine tune the trim once it's up and close.

Thanks, makes plenty of sense. Told you guys that I was ignorant on the subject. That's what I like about this site. If you will ask the right questions, shut up and listen, some of these fine individuals can help someone like me from learning something the hard way and having to go back and redo something like this. Very much appreciated.

I've just finished rigging my XR01 and had the same question about the 24v trim. A racer friend advised me that the purpose of 24v up trim was for drag racing with a trim computer which is activated by a micro switch on the go pedal. By not having any experience in 100+mph boats, I would be wise to use only 12v up trim on the wheel, and forget the computer until I have this beast mastered. He said 24v up trim can get you in trouble real quick. A little too much trim and this boat is on it's right side. I'm not an expert nor claim to be, just sharing info that I've gathered. Good luck- Be safe

it does not matter if the 24v is on the wheel or off a computer. a Allison has to have it to take a set in drag racing, other wise the boat will roll hard on the launch and will be a pain in the butt to recover.

if i was you i would buy a mercruiser pump, and try it first... they are a lot faster than the o/b stlye pumps... maybe fast enough for you. if not then go to 24V

U don't need a trim computer...Just a limit switch....when set, the mota will trim to the same place(on 24volts) every time, and WILL NOT TRIM TWICE!!...it'z a very simple thang to make...U kan make it purdy, hide it, or juss make it to do the job...The limit switch will eliminate the need for a up 24volt button on the wheel....

hey goof ball, while i agree 100% about the limit switch and not really needing a trim computer, i don't agree with not having both 12v and 24v on the wheel. how in the heck are you going to trim? and don't tell me you use your feet
running the 24v off a hot foot switch may work on you light ass boat, but on an allison it does not work so good. i can get away with it set up for 1/8 racing, but running the 1/4 where it leaves a little softer i still need a little delay. most allison's will need some sort of delay if there running a fast trim system.

I am sending my stock sportmaster to Lee Sanderson's lower unit guy also to get modified. Just trying to get all the ideas I can since I have never set up an XR2001 before.

GOOFBALL!!!!......Who'z da goofball yher boy....this simple statement sayz it all......
but on an allison it does not work so good.
GIT A REEL BOTE MY*****!!...:p
Now who'z da goofball....goofball!!:D
I used a timer for a lil while to delay the trim(an electrical timer, not a computer, like $40 for timer and base), but az U stated, on a REEL bote ya don't need trim delay!!!

Bill, theyz a bunch ov differnt ways and types that are easy...It's just figger'in out wher to put a micro switch to break the power wire to tha 24v up trim relay...If ya have a trim indicator(operated with a cable from the mota) juss use it to break the cerkit, juss figger a way to mount the micro switch to wher the cable hits it when ya want it to...Mine iz simple, but UGLY:D...I made it for a purpose, not for lookz....Now I am gunna build one for my new bote, and am gunna try and make it a lil purdier...I'll take sum pics ov what I have and maybe it will give U sum ideers ta make ya one...
The one thang I like about the limit switch iz it WILL ONLY TRIM ONCE, and the only way to make it trim agin iz to trim it back down!!!!!.....This wuz the big reason I built mine, after a trim computer sent one ov my Pro 120 boats fly'in, after I had to lift due to wind, and got back in it and the damm computer trimm'd agin on 24v....I hadda cleen my drawerz, but I leer'd a valuble lesson....an Micro switches are way cheeper den trim computers!!
