Guys, I have a 2.4 200 that I am building for my son. Let me say first, I understand all the don't do it, get a 2.5 logic. But he doesn't need that much power on the vking, he can't drive it much past 80 or so anyway and I already have the 2.4 that needs 2 sleeves anyway. So, that is what I am building for him. I have a question about the pistons and the 4 chrome holes and 2 steel sleeves that the block needs. I want the motor to be able to reliably turn up to 7500 max which means for reliability, I am going to get them top pinned. What I wanted to know about was which piston do I use for that rpm, cast or forged and what kind of clearance I need in the chrome versus steel bores with the best piston? I appreciate any and all inputs except for the get a 2.5 thing. Thanks

If U gunna have them top pinn'd, go with the wiesco's...give the steel sleeves .009" clearance...don't worry bout tha chrome, it'z big enuff, and U kan't do nutt'in about it anyway...JUSS MAKE SURE THE RINGS GIT IN THE RITE CYLS!!!...That iz the most offen death to a multi sleeve 2.4....
If U wrap sum schotch brite around a rigid hone, and hone the steel cyls(after normal hone'in), it will slick the steel cyl's and the mota will turn like a cherry chrome bore...and it won't hurt the ring seel, actually makes it better, and will slow rind wear...
After he spanks a few 2.5's wit dat 2fo he will like it even mo!!!

Thanks TREX. I am the one that PM'd you today about the same mota. I now am planning on building it myself since your are wrapped up. I just want to build it right so it can relaibly turn in the low 7K range and not grenade a piston or lose a locating pin. That's all I am mainly after in the build plus port it like the Cherry2fo. Thanks again

I almost forgot. Gonna smooth the exhaust chest a little and put a cross drilled 5 peddle intake from a 2.4 Mod VP and get a set of WH22's. Should be a fun little mota for him. Might need to contact you lata on jetting recommendations. Thanks

I would suggest putt'in a stock, undrill'd manifold first...break it in, git a base line, THEN jet up .008", and try the Xdrill'd manifold....U may verywell find the stock manifold to be better for allround river use...I juss happen to run a stock 5 peddle manifold on my F-1:thumbsup:

Wizard will offer forged racing pistons for your 2.4 engine within 2 - 3 weeks,
they are top pinned , dual ringed , and Racecote coated.. They are the same quality and race proven durability the 2.5 engines have been using successfully for several years.

remove the oil injection and be sure to use steel bearing carriers on the cranks bearings.

Jay, got any idea yet what the cost of the new wizards will be a peice? Just wondering since I have not got a clue what pistons cost anyway. I haven't done any rebuilds period since the mid 90's, that's why I asked. Just trying to get a ball park figure of what the total build might be. Thanks

TREX, the manifoid came from a 1990 2.4 carbed BP I had that I bought new back in the day. Of course those carbs had baffle plates and slosh tubes. I know it was factory jetted, but on that motor it had good manners.

I have no doubts about what TREX knows. He is the man on a 2.4, especially a carb mota. Hats off to TREX. I asked him first if he could do the work for me, but he is very busy right now. Understandable being it's slap dab in the middle of boating season. But, I did try that option first just in case he could get to it.
