I took my boat out fathers day and blew my last motor. I will not rebuild nor buy another motor for this boat. I had a sailboat pull me to the nearest dock. I am done with this boat,it will now rot under my tree.
I have thought about turning it into a v-drive set up? Is this even posible or is it too much work for the money? Any opinions or facts would be appreciated.

I cringed over the sailboat towing you in. Sorry to hear that.

As far as conversion from OB to V drive that would be a ton of work. Easier and cheaper to buy one already setup that way.

I refuse to fix this boat. I love the boat but i may be listing it on graigs list with a locked up motor. I have had totally bad luck with it. I think I am going back to v-drive boats.

You dont want this boat,it has alot of stress cracks on the top of it.
It shows well in pics but it does need alot of work to fix the stress cracks(spider cracks)what ever they are called.

Sorry to here about your boat & being tow in by a sail boat.
I got towed in by my wife & son in a paddle boat. They paddle out & sat in the boat while I paddle my Butt off on the way back.

David, sorry to hear, that sucks, especially on fathers day. For what ever it is worth, I said the same thing (and I am sure many others on here) before too. Pop a motor, get pissed and say I am done, I am selling the boat... I said the same thing last time I popped my old motor and the boat sat for about 2 months. then I started tinkering with it, and pretty soon I'm fired up about getting it back on the water. Not questioning your decision, it is your boat and you should do what makes you and your family happy, but I think a lot of us have been in exactly the same place at least once.

Hate these type posts...just spent almost a year rebuilding my Viper, rode in it twice when I bought it then tore it down, and it could happen to me on the 1st time out. If it does, don't know if the finances will be there to recover.

That tightazz sailboater just wanted to add insult to injury..........pay back for everytime a powerboater blows his doors off and leaves the bastard bobbing in the wake......personally I would have declined and done like SouthernSwing and manned up and paddled in, or just jump in and swim it in with a rope...........lmao

Lost 3 PH in one year and a transom..... im still tinkering on it gettin it back in one piece.... but the next one will be BAD ASS... hoping for about 260 HP and some SERIOUS MPH gains.... but gotta get the boat to settle down before that happens..

I think the lower unit has a problem? I bought the boat in 2005 and it had a fresh 200 merc on it. I have now had 5 powerheads on it!! I have replaced water pumps several times and the motors run great in a 100 gallon tub but once under a load the they blow.I did not even use the jackplate this time, motor was all the way down.
My problem now is that I have no more money to fix this boat.I do roofing for a living and times are getting tuff. I have 7 children(they are mine and do live with me) and it will have to sit until I can afford to get a new motor.
David
Just incase any of you are wondering about the v-drive set up, I have everything to set this up.I just stripped my old v-drive and junked the hull. I could not get a title to the v-drive due too no numbers on the hull.

You just ran the hell out of your rig till the gas ran out.......lmao I'll bet you had the blender so running outta gas wasn't too bad right

Gotta admit, your boat would make a sexy v-drive, and if all the parts are there, maybe after so many P/Hs it's a sign.
I'd part out what's salvageable from the merc. and have at it.
Would you need to move your dash forward?
B.T.W. it wouldn't hurt to get cable.......you horn dawg, and pray for a storm...........nothin bad just leaky roofs...........you'll have that bad boy up and running in no time.
Allways look for the positive way out........lmao
Peace!FIG

Yea well the chopper on the blender was a ripping but I didn't read the instructions on my new gas tank sender. See your suppose to measure the depth of your gas tank than cut and calibrate accordinly. I looked in the gas tank looked about half than looked at gas gauge said half thought done deal, boy was i wrong, about a quarter of a tank wrong! So what did I do, turned the gas up on the blender and waited and cracked up some Nuggent!!!!! :o Finally a guy in a pontoon boat came by and towed me across the river to get some gas, the kayacheers where having a field day thought it was funny as hell but when I filled up I gave them a fly by! Last year I did go out to my dock and found the Donzi on the bottom of the river so I do know how frustrating boating can be!!!:iagree:

I bet the nickel and dime stuff you need to do the conversion will cost more than a nice powerhead.

It ain`t the boats fault. However, I do agree that you need a bigger boat with that many kids.

I have both boats running good now and the trailer for my 30ft Scarab just rusted to the ground last week . A used trailer is about 3 grand. I can't even move the boat until I try to get the trailer from draggin.

Well that the way it goes in high performance boating, you have to take the bad with the good.I`ve scored my share of pistons.but the 2.4 I have I`ve tried to blow it up but I can`t.I just put together a 2.5 for my 18ft action, and have been waiting to damage the 2.4 but it takes a lickin and keeps on tickin.

I only wish I a problem of not blowing up. I may be selling the boat to a neighbor this week for $3000.00, We will see what happens. He does know the motor is blown so I dont think there will be a problem.
