Hey guys, need some help. I got my first 18' tunnel I was told it GPS'ed 110 when I bought it. I blew the lower unit before I could GPS it myself. The new lower I bought is 2:1 must be different from the one that was on it. 22 big ear would scream and not go anywhere, stepped up to a mazco 29 big ear I’m only getting 87.5 on GPS WOT @7200 rpms. I think I got the jack plate just right. I was told to try 29 srx. Not sure what my boat weights or the make. I running a XR4 merc with milled heads and carbon reeds. Exhaust work. How do I go faster or can I go faster with this set up?

your boat looks like a mirage. the speeds your getting seem pretty good for a relatively stock xr4. 110 would be a speed i would expect out of a strong 260. how high is your propshaft in relation to the pad.

yup
87 is pretty quick for a modified XR4
110 isn't safe anyway

blowover is the big concern especially for the inexperienced. at those speeds especially in a light tunnel all it takes is sticking the nose in the air with a couple bumps too much trim and one good gust of wind and its gone. not trying to scare you, just telling you be careful. i've seen plenty of pics on this site of guys running real high especially in mirages and don't know why. its not the fastest way to run a boat.

it takes time & $$$ to go into triple digits, setup, horsepower & talent with the trim button.another VERY IMPORTANT item is safety ,good lifejacket & kill switch . flat water & low or no headwind .a chase boat is good also.take your time getting used to your boat handling & dont let anyone push you beyond your limits & it can be a blast:thumbsup:seems everyone talks up their speed, especially when its time to sell:rolleyes:
Unless the motor has had some port modification, it's going to make better peak power in the 6500-7000 RPM range, but you're going to need 1.87 gears to get the RPM's back down.
The hull kinda looks like a Seebold?

early quartershots looked very similar, skittles boat used to run in oneteens with a stock 260 ,:thumbsup:safely

Any race boats that go that fast require capsules.
Use your kill switch, buy a lifeline or equivalent jacket, a helmet, and some sort of helmet to jacket tether.

Good advice on the safety equipment BUT there're a LOT of boats around here that run those kind of speeds WITHOUT a capsule. As a matter of fact, a capsule may very well be a bad idea on a lake toy unless there's ALWAYS a pickup boat with a diver on board. They're VERY dangerous to run unless strapped in tight............. just ask Tom.

:iagree: ihba rules 150 & up mph boats must have approved capsule, pinger ,air supply & driver has to go to a school. very dangerous without rescue crue on site! canipied boats are for race ,not for pleasure
It will go faster with a 1.87 gear and a better prop than a Mazco. That is still pretty fast for a XR4.

You wanna try my 1:87 gear case???
I've got a 30 yammi, 28 Hawkins, a 4 blade drag and 4 blade 30 offshore (pretty heavy) and some tighter heads you can try.
Or, if you've got the itch, this 260 is sittin here ready to buzzzzzz!!!! (you know you want it)
Or how bout this 2 liter champ that'll turn a 24 to the moon???? (just need T-Rex to tell me what jets to use, lol)

The 225 on your patio is most likely a 1:87, but you need the lwp unless you wanna swap gears.
I'm only an hour or two from you, lol...
Sell your XR-4 and buy one of my 260's.
