Looking at a putting one of my 300PM's on a polecat. I know it will be trim sensitive, but will it work w/the weight of the 3.0 liter?

I don't know about a polecat, but the 18 Liberator which has the same bottom as an 18 Mirage, loves the 300x. I put one on and it just keeps goin! No hop, no nothing!

First and foremost :
A Mirage Polecat and a Mirage Ski Racer's bottoms have NOTHING in common. A polecat is a Hybrid Mirage Wildcat with the middle pad lowered with an extention added ( scabbed on ) . There was NEVER such thing as a Polecat mold at Mirage.
As far as a 3 liter engine on one DUNNO , I raced a Texas built Mirage Polecat with a V-6 2.5 at 350 lbs ( engine ) and won BIG with one for years with a 9" jackplate , I would feel the extra couple of hundred pounds the 3 liter will add will need ALLOT of "experimenting" with. Thats ALLOT of weight on a hull designed for drag racing and had VERY short tunnels making it VERY unforgiving on nose height at speeds , also at high speeds don't get in a hurry to turn on a dime like a deep tunneled hull , it ain't happening!!!... All I can say with a great deal of certainty is that if you get the nose the least bit high, even if the 3 liter was bolted direct to the transom to reduce the CG with that huge amount of extra weigh added ( which the boat was designed to run flat ) you could be getting wet REAL quick before you could correct !!! This hull is very speed "tatooed" in my opinion also , I would feel safe up to 115 -118 MPH ish but with the short tunnels the front on the hull height to the water is critical ...Be carefull...
Good luck !

My nefew has Jay's old Polecat.
Wayne Taylor built the engine. A 3.4 liter, with everything we could throw at it. It used all of Wayne's parts including a 12" mid with a Merc 2.5 lower unit.

We set it up for the 1/8th. It would reach 102mph in 500'.

We never took it over 108 and it was very stable. I agree with Jay in that you would really have to be on your game going faster than 110.

I drove a polecat for several years in the 11 and then 10 sec class drag racing only, I also agree with Jay the hull is speed limited, 115!!!!!!! Anything faster and you are in the DANGER zone.
Now as far a runing a 3L on one well don't set it back far and try it but just be careful. What Polecat do you have, I was only aware of 2 being left, the black one in the above pictures and the one I had and just sold to Mirage 243???? Would love to see pictures.
what do you plan on doing with the boat? It isn't a very good lake or river boat, you planning on riding or racing.

A standard 300PM is a lot of weight. Like the guys posted previously-be careful if you try. I'd almost want to shorter shaft if I were going to try it, in my opinion. Set up is key though

I love my polecat that I just bought from Rick, only driven one race in it, so far so good. I strongly agree with Rick, it ain't no lake or river rider, don't turn for sh*t, but it sure leaves hard, flat and fast. I would also be interested in knowing about another one out there. I thought I had one of only two that are left.

Thanks guys. I decided to pass on this one. No racing, just cruzin for me so the ride is important. I found this one in College station. You guys may know this one it used to race in ODBA. 1992 model with a 15" modded carb. yamaha on the back. Looked at it today. Looks like it had been repaired in several places. Painted solid white.

I just got through doing the bottom of my Wildcat to make a Pole cat, after talking to Rick Conklin I sent my motor back 5 inches, it runs faster with some positive trim. Is this because of not have the proper set back? Or my fat butt in front seat?

How much possitive trim you putting into it? When I ran 10's I ran just about neutral trim

Put the engine on a 9 1/2" Jack Plate ( if you running 20" shaft w/no offset and a 7 1/2" J.P. if your running a 15" shaft with a built in 2" offset ) and you will need none OR zero positive trim along with 7/8" above split shaft to make the hull work...Been there and tried every combo in jack length and engine height. I've owned 2 Polecats and this combo worked on both..
Good luck,
Jay
