I'm Putting two Holley red pumps in my Skater and need to know if the Marine one really makes a Difference. I spoke to a guy at Holley and he said the only difference is the U.S coast guard appoved vent tube. Is this the only difference? And ,Do i need it?

Thanks
Jeremy

The marine version has a vent that would regulate back 2 the tank (assuming)wich would b nice.

Thanks Bigbore,

I was just reading another post and someone said the vent tube is just there in-case the seal goes. He wrote that he had it on his boat for seven years without a drop comming out.

Thanks Bigbore,

So a fire extinguisher that is never used, wasn't needed.

Fuel, especially volatile fuel like gasoline in a bilge can make survival difficult.

The pump i have now does not have a vent tube. J-martin, do you have experience with these or just putting in your two cents?

I've seen a bass bote with a poorly installed fuel system burn down to the water line and sink. Is that experience?

My point is, mechanical things fail. If a seal fails on the pump, and it's vented either to the outside, or back to the fuel tank, there is no danger. If it leaks into the bilge, and fumes build up, you will have a problem, one of which is the danger of explosion and fire. To install a non vented pump is a gamble. The odds are low, but the stakes are high.

hope it helps
John

I've got a pair of these in my boat...wondering where I can plumb the vents back into? The tank isn't setup for any more ports. The fill is 10-15' from where the pumps are. I was thinking about just running a line from the vent out through the transom, but if it did leak, that's polluting, plus I'd likely neve know. Also, I don't want the possibility of water getting back up the line.

Suggestions?

I didn't see what motor your using, (I'm running 260's)or if your using a surge/secondary,splash/small (however you understand it) tank. If your using two pumps per motor and using a secondary tank and the holly red is feeding the secondary tank to a higher pressure pump, I have to tell ya, I got tired of replacing the holly reds feeding my small tank and Ive used napa fuel pumps ($40.00)for years without a failure.

Nope, running OMC's. The Holley's directly feed the motors.

I`m beginning to loose faith in my holley stuff. My boat sat for 3 months went to fire up and the pump was shorted. The pump was only a few months old and under warranty 2 more before i got a good one and dont even get me started on the raggedy little regulators. At our shop on several pieces of equiptment we`ve got the little 28 dollar thumper pumps from autozone and their flawless.just scared to put one of those in my boat.

Aeromotive makes a nice pump that is durable and fairly inexpensive.

Funinthesun, I running twin 260's also. The boat is new to me, and as far as i can see there is no slosh tank. there are two pumps on each side,

here is a good discription from my cousin.

We are thinking about running it just with the weldon pumps. We will see if it works friday. I picked up two Holley red pumps in case we need them.
Who knows, maybe we will add a sosh tank.

Though after reading the stuff about holleys i hope i made the right decision!

Thanks guys

If you are running 260's you need more psi then the 7psi of the Holley red. You would need alteast a Holley blue.

Holley red is 4 psi, the blue is 12 psi... you need min 39 psi for the EFI.

Lots of people run regualr holley reds.... doesn't make it right.

Both my holley reds will peg my 10# guage i`ve a regulator on both one in a car and one in my boat.I dont know how much they drop at full flow but they will flood an edelbrock carb without a regulator.(was playing with some switches before i adjusted the regulator and hydrlocked my 5.0)no matter what the presure they still seem to have durability issues. The auto parts guy told me it`s because the motors aren`t sealed well.

run a 3/16 or 1/4 inch line to the nipple on the front of the intake. That way if the pump seal blows it will dump fuel into the intake and make the engine run real fat. which then all you need to do is replace the pump and not an engine.

I run a Holley red(marine)with a regulator on my Mercury outboard and without the regulator it seems to leak gas out of the front of the carbs. I have the regulator set at 4.5 PSI and now it runs great with no leaks.

Yeah. Otherwise, the carbs cannot hold back.

Can these pumps be used in place of primer bulbs? and still flow enought fuel when turned off to run a 280.
