I've got a '93 2.5 175 EFI XRi. The last time I ran the boat I was turning my 25p prop at 5700rpm's and was running fine. Took it out this weekend and put my 23p prop on because we were going to pull a tube and I have turned this prop 6200rpm's every time it has ran. This weekend though I could only turn it 5200. Nothing changed on the motor other than a prop change. I even ran a little sea foam in the tank of gas. The engine didn't miss at idle or reving and reved smooth to 5200 just didn't pull past it (even without the tube) and speed was down even though I didn't check gps speed. Where should I start looking for a problem. Like I said ran 5700 last time out with a 25 and nothing changed on the motor.
Thanks for any help.

Do your basics first.... compression test, check for water in the fuel, check spark, condition of the plugs etc.....

How old is the gas you were runnin on, is it left over from last season?

checking plugs tonight
fuel was new accept for 6gal that was from last year in my other boat, I used that with 24gal of new fuel and even added 6gal at the marina while at the lake. I wouldn't think that small amount of gas would cause that kind of drop without anything else being notice...but I am new to outboard too.
thanks for some places to start.

Look for signs of water on spark plugs. A cracked exhaust divider will cause a sudden drop in RPM.

checked spark plugs and all look like they are burning good, checked spark on all cyl and all spark. all holes had a little oil around the top of the holes. how do I check a cracked exhaust divider, and do they usually crack after the engine has been shut down. the motor was ran 2 weeks before.

Rich, Sea Foam is a fuel stabalizer/injector cleaner. I run it in my Rude every 2 months or so to keep things clean...

Found the problem. The wire was still in the tubing but the connector was broke. I haven't had it on the water since the fix but I'm sure this is it. Thanks for the help guys.
