My sons 1989 75hp mercury has no spark. It started fine then just die. I got it started again, when to put it in gear then it died. I started it again, let it idle instead of putting it in gear I used the fast idle lever,it shut off and hasn't run since. Good compression,no spark at any of the coils. Is it possible that the trigger is not good. Any info would be a great help. Thanks Joe.

start with a stator test . & go from there.

get hold of a shopmanual & go thru the proccedures for ignition system tests..

good luck.;)

Some of the Mercury engines had a inline fuse on the red feed line above the starter cylonoid , I'd check THAT FIRST. Also if the engine has a "tether" kill switch check that next.

Good luck,

See if you have a mercury kill switch on the engine, it will be located on the switch box plate, there will be black yellow wire coming from the switch box to this switch. Disconnect the wire from the switch to disable it, everything else will work as normal. These Mercury switch's were installed to kill the engine in case of a roll over.
