How do u remove the lower unit on a 2002 25 hp johnson....Ive always been a merc man..is there somehting different i need too know? does it have a pin or somehting that holds the shifter shaft in place?

Yes could be located at water intake, take off the plastic grills and unbolt the shift linkage. same place were you put muffs at. hope this helps

shifter linkage is similar to the 8/9.9/15 mercs in that the shift shaft connects to the shift mechanism below the PH right above the lower pan of the cowl.. it will either be cotter pin locked or a 1/4" nut holding it on to the shift linkage
Nope, Boatman44 is correct, look for the linkage under the water intake screens.
Use two 1/2" open end wrenches and then a pick or awl to remove the tapered plastic sleeve on the upper shaft. Get a new one to be on the safe side.

thanks guys....ur info was very helpful...johnson and evinrude are a different animal to me.. I had replaced a impeller on older models with the pin under the carbs never seen one like the one today but the newer stuff i rarely work on.im a merc man myself.....thanks again guy ...u guys are great... Keith
