I have a 1988 150 XR4, 2oo LU w/nose cone and low water pick up. I run this on my ranger 363v bassboat. I noticed that it is leaking down when I trim up the motor. It never has done this before. Any suggestions of what to look for?

if your saying that the trim is falling.. check the bybass valve on the onboard pump.. make sure it is shut all the way.. if that isnt the case your base on the pump probably has a bad check valve and is leaking by.. very easy to swap out the base with a new or used good one and be on your way.. this is considering u dont have a three ram trim..

I have a ram on each side of the motor, the trim falls when it sits for a while, 10-15 minutes. Where is the onboard pump? Is it under the motor between the cylinders?

I have fixed 1000s of trim units, 7 years at a shop, and almost 20 at home. I would suggest that you bring it in to a reputible shop and have it done by an experianced professional.
I just replaced one of these last week same problem same motor 1987xr2. They can be rebuilt if you can find somebody to do it that can get the parts. I picked up a used complete unit at hwy 88 boat yard in central sc. for $350 he has a **** load of them if u need one 1-864-646-9923.

find the manual control and cycle the system manually 3-5 times. sometime you get fuzz in the check valves. other wise its repair time.

Thanks a lot. I'm in West Texas here, 3 boat shops here between Midland and Odessa Texas. A 3 month wait at any of them and then they only want to replace with a new one. I have to try soething or limp thru the summer w/o it. I really need a pic or diagram that shows me where the bypass etc is. Anybody have something?:D
