What do you guys think about Michigan Wheel props.
I just got a used Michigan 4 blade 22P (small hub) for my bass boat.
My 17 procraft / merc 150 is running 51 mph at 5800 RPM with the 22P Michigan prop.
My other prop is a 23 Laser II. It runs 5900 RPM @50 MPH
I was thinking a 24 thophy might work better.
Any suggestions for more top end speed?
What are the advantages vs disadvantages of 3 or 4 blade props?
Enjoy reading this site and thank you.

They are a good low-cost stainless steel alternative to aluminum propellers, but they are nowhere near real high-performance propellers.

4-blades tend to give better acceleration and less steering wheel torque and generally be more civilized. 3-blades tend to have higher top speed, but that difference is very small for bow-lifting propellers.

I'm assuming your running a 2L 150 with a 2:1 lower ratio, because if your running a 2.5L your getting ALOT of slip. I'm spinning a 21 pitch TROPHY to close to 60 with a real light load and turning 5500-5600 RPM's.

Thefermanator, you are correct.
I have a 1984 2.0 150 with 2:1 gears, 6" CMC manual jackplate.
Boat weight is about 1050 empty, 1500 with gas, gear and myself (315 lb)
The slip is very high on the 23P Laser II (17%) and the boat porposed during mid range, worse after installing the jackplate, so I was advised this Michigan prop would help.
I guess the thought process was the the four blade would increase the bow lift, thus reducing the porposing and the 4th blade would help the slip. The lower pitch would compensate on the holeshot.
It seems to work OK, but I am expecting 55-57 MPH, not a 1 mph improvement over the LaserII.
I am willing to sacrafice some holeshot for top end speed.
Would a 24P trophy prop with cupped edges be what I need?
Any other prop suggestions?
Thanks

I have a 17.5' Champion with a '86 Merc XR2 150 that has the 2:1 gear ratio. I have been through a lot of props and the best one for my rig has been a Trophy 23 pitch. I get 57 to 58 mph spinning the motor at 5800- 5900 rpm. That is with just me, fishing gear, and half full of fuel. The Trophy really grabs hold of the water well.

I've found with my TROPHY PLUS, it REALLY grips up high in the RPM's. It slips ALOT less at 5400 than it does at 3500 or even 4500 according to the prop slip calculator. It also likes to get aired out up high which is nice for a flats boat tryin to run skinny.

Does your prop have a vented hub?
If so, what size vents.
Im in the market for a 23-24 trophy plus

The TROPHY PLUS uses a 4" hub and on a standard V-6 it uses over hub and the performance vent system. I had to go with a blow-out ring on mine and drop down to the small plugs in the prop to keep the prop hooked up down low in the RPM's. I really like the MERCURY PVS system as it let's you fine tune your prop to your hull and needs.
