Is going from a small ear to a large the same as going up in pitch by1-2 sizes? Is it gonna slip more or about the same. Thanks Rick
The big-ear will slip less at almost every midrange RPM. If the boat was too heavy for a small-ear to start with, it will also slip less at WOT, which could "act" like going up in pitch.

On my boat, it was hard to tell the difference. Been a few years, but it was like 150 rpm, and .2 mph. I tested 28" props.

Thanks I got a big ear on ebay for 9.90 thought it was salvageable but is actual useable. With the small ear I slip bad on take off excellerate hard and after 6k it seems to be flat as if its just making more noise. Thanks Rick
See, with a light boat like Pete's, there might not be much difference, or the small ear might be faster in some instances.
On a heavier boat like mine, the small-ear will barely get on plane, and will always run at 15-20% slip in every RPM range.

My results surprised the heck out of me, I'd agree that with the light hull, it didn't make much difference. I wasn't real thrilled about shelling out $300 for a big ear to pick up .2 mph.:nonod:

I was told when I first got the Vector, that the long ears would turn more RPM's and still be a 28, (that was the first one I got), so they would be about 5 more MPH on top than a big ear.
Dont know if they were just trying to sale a prop, or not, but I bought the 28.
I have a long ear 28 and 30 now, but my friends big ear 28 handles better on my Quartershot, which seems to need lots of bowlift at mid speeds to keep it from bounceing.
The long ear 28 was almost 3 MPH faster on the Shot than the big ear, but they were tested on different days.
I couldn't get the long ear 30 to take a good set in the short run space I had, and never got a good top end number with it.
I may take it out in the big river on a calm day and see if I can get it to hook up an lay down a good top end number.
