i have a 1999 2.5 280 hp mercury.rebuilt and dry stacked by JSRE. i have what appears to be a oil leak. i have what looks like straight two stroke oil around the power head after running motor for the day. funny thing is i premix.but i swear this looks like straight two stroke oil ? am i missing something ? if the base gasket was leaking would it look like this ?

FIRST : Look for a leak at the TEE's and hose connectors where the motor pulls oil thru the bearings from the plenium , very seldom but sometimes they will crack and leak. I also find sometimes the 45 degree screwed in check valve at the base of the block attaching the yellow tygon hose from lower to upper main bearing fitting is very vulnerable of getting bumped and broken during removal of the crates and instillation of the the power head I've had to send folks replacements before.IMO A base gasket would not have oil like that if a leak was there. Another question does it look as if the leak is originating from the front, sides, or rear of the block? Might give me a clue as to where to look for the starting point of a leak.
..

Also : We run ALL engines we build for 1 hour on our run stand and at that time they are inspected for things such as oil , water and fuel leaks to try and head off any issues for our customers engines . Again sorry your having an issue and we will work with you to get you 100 % satisified with your JSRE rebuild.

please do not get me wrong i am 100% satisfied with what you did. i guess i should have stated i just bought this 21 skater and the previous owner(Gabe) had you do the work. i believe it is just one of those things. what baffles me the most is it looks like unmixed oil.i will try and get a better idea of where it is coming from this weekend when i run it again. once again thank you very much....Dan

to avoid confusion, by stating the obvious, the oil you are seeing, started as premixed fuel, then the gasoline evaporated, and left the oil behind, don't worry you will find it, keep looking for the leak.

I Have A Slight Seepage Around The Block Halves Where They Join On The Injector Side Of The Block.i Thought By What I Have Read That Small Seepage Was Norm For The Mercs.i Have No Puddling In The Pan.stock 03 With 79 Hours.
