Has anyone every seen the gains on a dyno that switching from a Vertical reed front V-4 or V-6 Yamaha to a horizonal front will give. How about RPM or MPH gains (any real world numbers out there ).I keep hearing about a few Horizonal reed V-4's that have run great but I have never got to talk to anyone first hand that has or had one. i dont have any dyno numbers but i know there is noticable difference between the two. i swapped one onto a 150 with a 220 tuner, carbs, and exhaust plate and the motor will pull to a little over 7000 with low compression heads. jacks marine used to run a v4 in odba that would turn up around 10,000, it had a taylor mid and the sound was awesome.

Thanks Whatsamerc, do you have a E mail address for the jacks marine that had that firebreathing V-4 Yamaha? I would really like to talk to him. Thanks again for your reply. Joe Raimondo

Joe, as far as I'm concerned the horizontal conversion on a v4 might as well be an urban legend. Many times we hear about people that have done a horizontal v4, but as of date we've yet to hear first hand experience from anyone. It's alway "i heard of someone" or "I saw one run" etc. but so far no one with first hand experience will post specific information nor any pics.

So, a horizontal v4 yammie is an URBAN LEGEND, that is unless someone will be nice enough to PROVE otherwise.

jacks marine is closed now, he passed away a few years ago from cancer and the shop got wiped out by the hurricane. it isnt an urban legand but it isnt an easy conversion either, it takes alot of machine work to cut a v6 front to fit a v4. i think once you get the fronthalf right the rest of the conversion should be pretty straight foward. i think wayne taylor had alot to do with jacks. jacks son has a taylor efi intake for the horizontal front also. no legend just racers trying to keep their winning combinations secret.........benji

wayne (madefi) he make them from v6 fronthalf Being I don't know of anyone that races these V-4's anymore if someone had a intake and or front half laying around I would be interested in it.I am in the begining stages of trying to have one built as we speak. Finding or even just looking at one would be a great help. Joe R
