I have about 12 differant 5-6 gal red gas containers. Is there a way to determine if it's gas/oil mix? For anything important I always use known, fresh mix. I drain a lot of older gas out to mix new gas/oil. I"ve got a lot of non-fussy small outboard, chain saw and mower things that I like to just grab some old unknown fuel can, but how can you be sure it"s got oil? Don't tell me to mark them all, my wife already tried that one on me.

There's always dye in the oil. Pour some in a glass and look for green or blue color.

If in doubt, just add more oil ... most of your equipment won't care a bit if it gets some extra.

Not all oil is died green or blue, some has purple or red die ... add that to the gas's original die color and who knows what color you will see. If you know what color your straight gas is and what color your oil is you should be able to tell what's going on.

After I add Alisyn oil (light blue oil), my fuel becomes a fluorescent yellow-green color. :D

Dip your finger in the gas and smear it on a piece of glass.
Look for oil residue after it dries. :)

When I add Klotz (red) to AV gas (blue) it turns dull grey

Dump a couple gals in your car at each fillup to burn it up and use fresh gas that you know is mixed for the lil engines. I burned a whole tank of straight 1 year old 40:1 in one of my trucks and it ran fine.

Gas is too expensive for that!
Run it in your lawnmower! :)

Run it in your truck to pull your ride to the ramp. Is your powerhead worth the gamble????

Yous guys is missing da point ... he's not running questionable gas in his outboard ... he's consuming it otherwise; he just wants to be sure its 2 stroke friendly in the weedeater and junk chainsaw

Mix it all together, add 50:1 to it and you got it to where you can run it in all your lawn equipment.

Here's a good one on the subject. I drained a half tank of 110 torco/93 pump/ klotz Be-nol, 20 to 1, that's the mix with the castor oil real racing smell. I put it in a 25 hp merc, 16 ft flatbottom river boat. At Hardy dam, one week after labor day anyone with anything fast gathers along a sand bar stretch of the river. Probably a hundred people. I took a friend just to see the going-ons. As we drove by in the river boat, as the smell wafted across the perf crowd, it was funny to see every head looking around feverously to see the "super boat" that must be around!

Many of the guys who run at Hardy just happen to use that same oil, sure does smell good...
