I searched and see that the oil injection on the 3.0L mercury is much more reliable and some people say to leave it, while others say remove it. My question is why cant you premix the oil in the fuel and leave the system on without oil in it?

my 2 cent. if you are not turning above 6500 and you just have to pre-mix, at least take the gear and tube out so the is no question of stripping a gear and depositing metal in the motor.

You could probably do that, and just leave the bottle empty, but you would have to bypass the low oil alarm, it kicks ya into limp home mode.

what year and type of oil injection do you have. the older units that mix the oil into the gas can be removed. the newer direct oil injection is another story.
