Yeah, I'm pretty sure it is one of those '50's DIY magazine plan boats; I'm sure I've seen it too. You'd have to look at a half million magazines to figure out which one.

looks like and early glen-L design....as featured in popular mechanics......IIRC circa 1960

I have plans for a similar one....i've thought of making it up for my niece as she is keen as mustard to drive anything. With a 30hp engine they will do about 50mph..though the memory is rusty.

I built an 8' Glen-L "Tiny Titan" that looks very similar although mine did not come to a point at the bow.

Also looks like a canvas deck which would make it older, atleast early 60's and more likely 50's if so.

I think the first super spartan 11' Glen-L were pointy.

I remeber having one when i was a kid, best fun in the summer.

I picked it up for $200 for the kids, they are driving me nuts wanting to take the D mod or capsule boat out & their just too fast

the KD3 gets it on a plane, but not so great, I put a 15hp rude on it and it was doing about 30mph or better...now the kids are happy....for the time being:rolleyes:

this is not a turd if your 12 years old:cool:

a boat like that is proof that speed is relative!

I've always said that you should cover your speedometer, go for a ride and see how fast it "feels".
You would be shocked at what you felt and then saw after uncovering the meter.

Heres my "turd" (Glen-L Tiny Titan and BTW, the Super Sparton came out later) from when I was 13 (1972) . May have put more time on that boat and had more fun than any boat since.
Went in the water behind my parents boat every April and stayed in the water until Nov 1 when both got hauled.
Did that for yrs.

BTW, w/a KG-7 w/a brass 2 blade (Michigan! ), a velocity stack, Quincy exhaust and a nose cone made from a broom stick and bondo it ran ...39 and felt like 100! (indicated)

If only kids were building and racing these now....not alot of damage can be done at 35mph but an aweful lot of fun can be had. and there is only about 50hours build time in a tiny titan, pic up a small out board for a few hundred dollars and go have some fun.

do the math on MPH per HP's on a boat like that and then do it on a bigger boat.
Model of efficiency!

Learned all about rough water in that boat too :p

Still have plans for quite a few of them and keep thinking I'm going to build another one just to rig and play with.

I hear ya, but I bet this wont keep the kids off my back but one season before they start bugging me again to run the D mod or 45sst
& I must confess I too get bored easily and need more speed:D

I;ve gone and bought the lumber....i'm going to make one for my niece.
Will power it with a 30hp EFI merc....anyone got a heads up on a hydraulic steering system for the 30HP?
I asked her what colour.....she wants metalic maroon with true look flames....oh dear i had to ask.

I remember finding rough water as well....resulted in being forced to swallow about 3 gallons.

I'll step up to the 30hp EFI merc next year....when they get bored

Ive been asked to paint it black silver pin stripes and airbrush Betty Boop on her :p

your niece will be thrilled

how is the steering setup on yours?
I only have vagure memories of a rather inadequate cable system.

MadProps

steering wheel hub & cable/pulley system pretty much like any hydro racer
I can take pics for you if you need it

this also has a cornering skag on the bottom, middle of the hull.

pictures would be great!

I think i might splash out and get something like a baystar hydraulic system just for the bling factor. Does yours have any gauges?
Trying to teach her about engines..so thinking a tach and temp would be nice. maybe a gps speedo....

MadProps

currently no gauges but I will install a water pressure gauge, & I will put in a speedo & tach so they learn setup & dialing it in first hand, they have watched me struggle at times:o and know how to ....in theory

Ill take some pics for you tomorrow

You may have put on a couple pounds since then, not sure it would be the same :)

learned to deep water start on a slalom behind a 13' Whaler w/a 18 at that same age.
Doubt that would work anymore either :p

Have plans for some bigger ones that would work though.

there are some good plans around for 14 and 16ft hydros, out board and inboard.
The great thing about them is that they are pretty easy to build, cheap to run and power doesn't need to be massive to go "quick"
