I have a 85 XR2 150 complete that has 2 scored cylinders. I am replacing this with a 91 2.0l 150 block with a 96 EFI 150 front half. I also have a drop on cowl for this setup. I will be using the mid and lower from the XR2. I need to know a few things before putting it all together:

1. The exhaust divider has a fitting at the bottom that should have a hose on it. Where does this hose go? Is this used for backflushing? The other block has a plug in it.

2. What do I do for the water outlets from my XR2 mid going to the cowl pans? Do I cut holes in the pans or just let it run out?

3. What water routing configuration should I be using? I do not have any fittings on my mid section like the newer ones do?

Thanks

Mark

Which cowl are you using? There's many types. It matters. In some cases, it even affects the cooling system.

I will be using the mid and lower from the XR2. I need to know a few things before putting it all together:

There was a discussion about this over the past week. It's supposed to tee into the lower end of the pee discharge hose, and apparently sprays discharge water at the water pump housing. If you leave it disconnected, the plastic alignment tube on the water pump might melt from exhaust heat (but this tube is not necessary for operation, only LU alignment and installation. A metal replacement tube is available.)

2. What do I do for the water outlets from my XR2 mid going to the cowl pans? Do I cut holes in the pans or just let it run out?

Which outlets? The "nostrils" should be below the cowl and/or skirt. Fishing motors use a "pee" restriction fitting instead of a head dump hose, and the poppet shouldn't have any kind of dump fitting.

3. What water routing configuration should I be using? I do not have any fittings on my mid section like the newer ones do?

Head t-stat dumps should be teed together, then directed to the pee fitting.
What other fittings are you trying to hook up??

OK. I think I understand better now. See pics below(pics are from my XR2, but the routing should be the same for the 91 block correct):

So in the first pic where the plug is I need to replace with a hose fitting and attach to where the screw/bolt is in the hose coming from the T-stats with the other side going to the tell tale.

What is the fitting in the next pic for? And where does it get hooked up?

Or should I replace it with the plug in the following pic?

Here is the cowling I will be using. I did notice the outlets would be just below where the cowling meets the mid. What goes to the hole in the back of the pans?

About the poppet. There is a hose from the poppet to the top os the block where you would tap off for pressure gauge. Is this correct?

Thanks

Cowl looks like a 1993.

You can hook that "water pump shower" back up if you want to, the cowl you're using will allow for it. There's supposed to be a little elbow fitting there. The high-performance cowls don't have room to hook it up, the previous owner probably blocked it and plugged the tee fitting so he could use a lightweight cowling.

I'm not familiar with that exhaust cover/poppet/"top of block" hose setup.

Someone has to know what's going on here...
