What about A12 And A17? My 96 225 promax has a A17 and am told that this replaces the A12. Someone must know somethig about these boxes and the differences.

It's all about serial numbers guys. Here's the low down.
A6 (No Longer Avaliable) for engines with S/N OD00936219 and below.
A12 (No Longer Avaliable) for engines with S/NOD936220 & UP.
R32 (No Longer Avaliable) Superceded from A17 & A32
A17 (No Longer Avaliable) for Long Shaft engines with S/N's OG610104 thru OG856000.
A32 (No Longer Avaliable) for Long Shaft engines with S/N's OG857000 thru OT420039.
A23 (programed for more RPM's) (Still Avaliable) is for the Pro Max 225 SS.
While I used the term No Longer Avaliable. That refers to New in the box from a dealer etc. There still out there to be found off used or spare parts engines.
If you're looking for performance out of an ECU invest in a Brucato ACU.
For more technical information and details go to Ask JSRE on the homepage.
Hope this helps.
