I was speaking with someone who was an old Laser dealer/ racer that is looking to begin reproducing the 380, LTV, and the 21'. I'm not sure exactly when he would get to doing this, but I think he is pretty determined to do so. I told him, I'm not sure if there would really be a market for these altough they were great boats. He doesn't really use the internet so I told him I'd put the idea up to see what people think of it. Any input I can give to him on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

All depends on price vs quality. If it is a low price with top notch quality he might have something.
Ussually these 2 things don't go together but until he has a reputation for building outstanding quality boats he is going to have to have a low price.
If he builds junk, the price won't matter. With todays internet everyone will know in short order and he'll be done.
The old 21 Lasers looked alot like the 21 Triads. Nice looking boats.
Good luck.

How much motor was too much?
He used to put 135 & 150's on them and ran them in J class

i say give it a shot:) My uncle has a 380 Ray with a 2.6 Evinrude XP and its a blast. I would be really cool to see some one build those boats again, i'd buy a LTV someday if i can afford it. Does your friend build other boats?? I think John Spaithe builds other boats so he can keep building Streams. He could do something like that. good luck with the idea... hope it works for him

380 and LTV built with todays products and good a quality build would make for a very quick boat I would think. Might work for us 6 ta 800ft. pussies:p
2550, 380 n LTV don't even breath hard with a 200 or less ;)

I'm kinda of curious where he is gonna get molds. Laser Boats of Texas is still in business, though the newest Laser I've seen being sold was sumthang like a '96 or so. Unless he plans on building from a 'splashed' mold.

Yea, Lass I heer'd the molds were sett'in in tha field behind tha shop in Roanoke texaz.....
I did call about a new lightweight 380 several yeers ago, and I wuz told the only way a comp 380 could be made wuz with Summerfords blessings???...So inquire'd abot a ski layup 380, with the colors ov my original 89' 380, and to my shock, I wuzn't pay'in 14K for a hull, OV ANY KIND!!.....I payed $11.300 for my 89' hull, MagII 150, and Oklahoma custom trailer, delivered and rigg'd...
Az for sell'in Laser's now....Most people haven't a clue how Lasers drive, or handle, unless they have driven them...I kan tell ya that QUALITY will be tha biggest factor in building a new Laser....The use ov the newer materials, such az coosa board, instead ov wood would increase the price, but would be a goiant step to make'in a top notch boat, and one that would soon make a reputation for it'z self....Boats are like everthang else, mostly personal prefrence...sum like hydrostreemz, sum allisons, sum like bullets, and sum settle for a bayliner.....U won't know how many will sell, till ya make a few, and people start talk'in......Look at the hydrostreem...When I heer'd they wuz doin them agin, I juss shrugg'd my shoulders kuz in my opinion, they had bekum junk, and I didn't like thier lookz....Then the new venom hit tha market, and I changed my tune...They have purdy well prooven themselves, and are a damm nice look'in boat....
I have 3 Lasers now, have had a number in the past, and building new Lasers will have to go thru the same stage the Venom did....THEY WILL HAVE TO PROOVE THEMSELVES ...Not performance wise, kuz they have prooved themselves in that catigory, but adding a lil modern style, and stepp'in up the quality ov construction.....JMO.......REX
Oh, and I have a 16' that haz close to 300HP on it, and it drives great.....

 to ya Rex. Think ya pretty much covered it. Went by their shop a couple years ago and was askin' bout a new bare hull but after seenin' tha molds sittin' in tha mud n weeds was glad tha "kid" didn't really want ta build one tha way I wanted. (Saw tha molds as I was leavin'):nonod: :nonod:

Strange that your 16 don't slow well....I wear a leg brace on my right leg, and lett'in off the gas easy iz juss about impossible for me...I have found that when I pass the bouy, or fix'in to chop throttle, juss git on the down trim, and the lil bote settles like ya put tha brakes on...Mine haz never tried to hook while doing this...I have hook'd my bote one time, when try'in a new geercase(wuz cut for an allison, and had a small skeg)...It hook'd about 85 or so, and damm neer slung me out....It caught me by suprize, bekauze my lil 16 haz always driven like it wuz on a string!!...I have my bote set up for 1/8th mile dragz, My mota iz a 300hp F1 2liter, that haz been converted to use a set ov bored 22's, and a 5 peddle front for quick throttle responce...22" wheel, 2.33 geers, and a set ov 10cc heds makes it one ov tha most fun lil botes U'll ever ride in!! ...My Orange 16' iz a ski bote, converted to a race bote, and weigh's in @ 369#s(empty hull).......My new Yeller 16' iz a tru comp hull, with all wood replaced wit coosa board, and weighs 265#s(empty hull)....The comp hull iz actually stronger than the other one...
I tried to post a couple pics, but couldn't....

Thank you for all of your posts, I have given all of your information to him and I think he is still considering it. Since it seems quality is the number one priority I expect there should be no let downs. I have not once been dissapointed by anything he has done.
Also seeing some pics of your 16' with the 300 would be sweet. Up on the lake where I usually go there is very little speed equipment. There is only one v6 on the entire lake.

Bobby, I'm a sheet metal man, I can make you a stainless or aluminum hull no problem, dad was the fiberglass guy for sure. I tried that for a while with him and I hated it. You are more than welcome to the mold tho!!
