You're gonna have to take both off. Doesn't really matter which comes off first. Shift rod comes out with the lower. If by some strange chance you bend the shift rod, just bend it back.

1) pull the lower unit
2) attach 3 point lifting cable to powerhead and hook to lifting device.
3) remove side pans
4) if you have enough cable to swing the motor out of the way, you will not need to disconnect them from the powerhead, if not, you will need to disconnect the cables, fuel line and oil line.
5) diconnect the trim wires
6) hoist until the weight osf the engine is being supported by the hoist.
7) Remove the motor mount bolts (upper and lower) and swing the motor away from the boat.
8) remove the steering pin
9) release the trim with the release screw and manually lift the swivel housing to gain access to the tilt pin. remove tilt pin.
10) remove the steering cable/ram and remove the tilt tube.

swivel bracket should fall off.

Always pull the lower unit first cause you still got tilt and trim at that point.

The powerhead does not need to come off, you can pull the powerhead and mid together off the mounts as long as the lower is off.
