They call them duckbill plugs because when they fail, you'll be swimming with the ducks.

I used one for years, had water for years, finially a friend asked why I used it at all...........

If you are not getting water in the boat, why do you need it to drain back out?

A piece of pine straw or a zip tie, or a beer cap etc, and water will come INTO the boat.

yeah unless your boat is super clean inside, any dirt or debris in the hull will find its way into them and they'll leak.

Yep, all it takes is an errant straw or beer bottle cap. Or a twig, fat leaf or a pebble.
