What year did they change from the 300 ProMax to the 300x? Is there a big difference between the two?
Thanks,

2001 was the first year of the X. If you are looking for one get a 2002 or newer. Has better electronics. Depending on who you talk to, they say the 300PM was about 290 to 300 and the X has 315 to 330. So there is a bit of a difference.:) Chuck

Yep, Electronics is the big one. 32 bit processor versus 16. The X also has a better intake system, different ports and higher compression. Either one is still a fuel and oil hog.

I agree that the X uses alot gas, but I think when you start dealing with over 300 HP, you going to use ALOT fuel;) . The XS uses a good amount at wide open, that engines savings is in the mid range.:) Chuck

The X isnt that bad at mid range. My old 2.4 200 carb drank like a bastard. http://i28.tinypic.com/1zqv66v.jpg

What about the difference in fuel consumption between my 2.5 260's, and the 300x?

Lower rpm+ larger prop = better fuel economy. http://i28.tinypic.com/1zqv66v.jpg

I'm pretty sure my 300 sucks more gas than my old scarab 22' w/454... but I love it to death. Best motor I've ever owned.
