I cant answer your question on why it feeds from the middle, but I can say that the Black max motors that I have owned always ran from the top.Hope this helps.I would put it on the top and let gravity take its course.
David
Good luck.

Don't matter......either carb, either side.....
I make a manifold and feed all 3, but in reality........IT DON'T MATTER!!

not to hijack your thread....mine enter the bottom carb first and then enters the mid and top carb last. i was thinking of running a recirc line back to the tank after the last/top carb with a regulator in this recirc line to control the pressure around 5-8 psi. right now i run the holley fuel pump with regulator and dead head it. is this a good idea? leave it as is? any benefit to runnin a recirc with a back pressure reg? opinons? thanks

Well, doesn't the enricher valve use the top carb bowl to feed the bottom two carbs for cranking/choking? (gravity feed)

It's probably an old set of carbs. The early V-6's about 76-79, fed from the middle.

Basically, the two threaded holes are connected by a pretty large passage, like a pipe, and they drop into the 2 needle valves on the carb.
You can hook them up with a manifold, or end to end in any combination. It really don't make any difference.
Enricher feeds the 2 lower carbs behind the throttle plate, where there is vacuum. You could feed it from a coffee can in the bilge, and it would probably work. It happens to get it's fuel from the float bowl in the top carb (on my engine) Same thing, anyway that's convenient will work.
hope it helps
