I have a 87 48 spl complete motor w/ blown PH

and a 96 48 spl PH and mid

Can i use the 87 lower on the 96 PH? Im starting to think the driveshaft spline is different..

I also have a 1980 lower and a 1972 lower they both seem to have the same spline...

90 is pretty close, the fact still remains your 87 48 spl PH and a 96 48 spl lower won't bolt together The driveshaft splines are not the same.

Bruster,

is there a way that i can swap out driveshafts? or is a newer case the only option?

cant swap the shafts but you can cut the ends off and have the new spline welded on the old shaft (machine shop) cut mine in the middle.

I Did This Over 15 Years Ago Seems Like I Had To Mount The New Power Head To The Old Mid. This Was A Short Shaft On A Little Tomcat.did Alot Of Butchering Back Then.you Might Test Fit First But The New Lowers Are Junk As Are The Splines Seen A Few With The Splines Wore Off. Like I Said Over 15 Years Ago Wasn`t Married Then Things Are A Little Hazy

seems like you could also put the old crank in the new block.(seems like)

Driveshafts swap in the '87/'96 cases. Not the older stuff.
