My CV16 is only rated for a 120hp outboard. :) I just bought a 200 to put on it. How can I keep from busting my boat?

If the transom is in good condition it will be fine as is.

As I understand it, the CV has no pad, the CVX had a pad, correct? If there is no pad that boat will be a handful with a 200. Be careful and learn to drive it a bit at a time. :)

Correct, no pad. I'm expecting it to be too fast for the boat as a 115 would take it in the upper 40's. So I'm expecting at WOT this thing will wreck. I'm more concerned about the integrity of my boat than my life. :-) I just don't want her to break on me.

Should I put a pad on it? Would that make it easier to handle?

That is a ton of work. Better to just look for a boat with a pad, or don't drive too fast. :)

Well, that Suzuki DT200 just ate up the rest of my funds so that rules out a differant boat. So I guess it's half throttle :) How are these Suzuki's anyway? I'm actually not sure of the year, it's got dual plugs per hole if that helps.

put the tuned exhaust on your 115 if you still have it. that will put the boat into the hi 50. that 200 may also be too heavy for the width of the transom.

The 115 block needs sleeved and it's way too expensive so I decided to part it out. I'm sure the 200 is too heavy. I think it's around 430 lbs or so. I know it's too much motor. I was actualy looking for a 150 but these outboards are selling so quick if they're any good. The price was right on the 200. Are there any "bolt on" applications that I could use to help with the over wight and over power?

i think what the concern with the weight is.. if its too heavy.. the back of the boat could sit very low in the water.. or underwater..

I have a 1975 CV16, and went through all of the same questions last year. Had a inline 150 on it when I bought it (with motor problems) and decided to put a V-6 150 on it using a jackplate. both were Mercs. I had no issues with the transom what so ever when the inline was on it. NOW HEAR THIS: I decided NOT to beef up the transom. mounted the V-6, and after about 3 times to the river, noticed a crack across the top of the transom and down about 1/4 inch on one side right next to where the jackplate mounted to the transom. I was bummed to say the least. Well now it has a 1/2" aluminum plate on the inside, outside, and top, all welded together, sealed with 4200 and is bullet proof. The whole transom would have to rip off the back of the boat to have anymore issues with this. This ruined the value of my boat (my uncle was the original owner and it is in very good shape for how old it is), but kept it as a usable play toy. Now the news about performance, as I know you will want to know.....When this boat hits about 62 MPH (according to the speedo), it begins to have some pretty major driving issues. I was running a 23 tempest plus. Now to also try and give everyone a laugh, at 64-65 on the speedo.....The hose popped off the back of the speedo...soaking me with a stream of water before I could get the thing stopped.

I have now taken this project as far foward as I am going to. (to many kids..not enough seats, and a checkmate enchanter waiting for my attention!)

I will be soon selling this rig (will more than likely seperate motor from boat for liability reasons). You are more than welcome to contact me, ask for photos, ect. (just PM me if you have any questions and we can use e-mail or phone to discuss. You are even welcone to come take a look if you wouldn't mind the drive. Hell you could buy the boat less motor for a VERY reasonable amount of money considering all the new parts on it)
