I am going to put 2" Bob's spacers on the Quartershot. My question is what is the longest bolt I can use with safety in mind. When I went on Bob's website, I saw that they had a recall on their older jackplates. They sent me the parts for the recall, one of the parts are stops that go on your bottom mount holes on the jackplate to engine. With these stops, jackplate, spacer, and engine mount, it comes to 7". So I was going to use a 8" bolt. Does this sound safe?? Thanks, Chuck

use a grade 8 long enough for a std nut and a nylox nut. the length doesnt play into the yeild strength of the bolt. remeber grade 8 is not SS and will rust slightly. you will need to inspect every year, but you should do that even with SS.

My thinking was if it helps my performance, I would purchased a 8" jackplate.
What grade are the strongest SS bolts?? Chuck

Chuck,

Regular stainless is only about 70,000 psi tensile strength, Grade 8 steel is like 120,000 psi, look into ARP stainless bolts, about 160,000 psi.

Just called them, 6" is the longest they make. Chuck

Look at these too, go to the Mcmaster Carr web site, and put in this part number 91286A366, 8 inches long
