I have a 78 vector. 2.0L merc on a 6'' jackplate and 20 gallon fuel capacity in back. Would I benifit by putting the battery up front or should I leave it in back? In addition, What prop would suit this setup the best? Thanks

leave the tank in the back. with high speed boat you need the nose lite for bow lift. what props are you currently using. i would think a 23-24 tempest should do the job. but give us some info. gps speed, rpm. height in relation to the pad.....

If you find the bow too light change to a 4" or smaller jackplate.

I wasn't thinking of moving the tank up front, just the battery. I am still assembling the boat ( I bought it as a project boat and have not got it on the water). My concern was balaning the boat. Since they came with an inline 6 and I'm using a v6, it's gonna be heavier in the back, especially with a jackplate. I don't think CMC makes a 4" jackplate. I currently have the PL65 (5-1/2'' of setback). A 23-24 pitch prop seems kind of small. I was thinking 26-28p merc chopper. The motor is a 2.0L 175hp. I brought the compression up to 145psi. There has to be dozens of Vectors out there with 2.0 mercs. I thought someone would have the complete scoop on props with this combination. Thanks guys

should have said keep the heavy items in the back.

Bob's makes a jackplate that is convertible to 5" or 2 /12".

i would think the 5 1/2 may hurt your turning but may be nice for speed runs?.?.?. i got a 5 1/2 for my vking but thats just because that is what many here recommended.

i would think 26-28 chopper should work and who knows on the setback, you just need to try it an get a set up you like.

my 2 cents

I've got a'79 vector. Had a 2.0 -26 Lightening ET, 1" setback (made out of 1" alum. plate, center steer. Tank in the back(ctr) then bat.(ctr) then passenger seat (if installed-centered) then drivers seat(ctr) No weight up front. Got a 2.5 200hp on it now.

Kninja, what were your fastest speeds with the 2.0L? What prop were you running? thanks

ernstudet22 I would leave the battery in the back on center if you can, also i think the best prop for your rig would be a merc chopper 26-28 pitch like you said.

That's a big gas tank in the rear for a Vector, gonna be a big difference in handling from full to empty tank! Vector's need minimal (if any) setback. Ran 4" Land&Sea jackplate on my old Vector just because I wanted the flexibility of lowering the motor to go skiing when needed. I would guess a 27" SRX would be a good prop with your setup....Should see 75mph+

motor bolted high on transom,no jackplate, nose cone low water pickup, has plenty bow lift without jackplate, running high 70s. thinkin about trying a 28 big ear
