A shorted rectumfier will get them in time.

J Martin... Has it right with a shorted rectifier it over loads the coil in the stator which is made up from small copper wire and it simply opens or because of the very light insulation it shorts which either way causes it to not put out correctly...

heat, heat and more heat. Also batteries that can't take the electrical load causing an electrical build up and more heat.

For the Imput.:) I kinda think the heat of a black motor in the sun will cook em just settting for weeks..... thats why I cover my motors with a white thingyyy. I get rid of the 40 amp stuff and put 16 amp stuff on. Any of you guys just run one leg on a 40 amp? Thanks... Dave S.:D

All the time, though usually not on puropse. :D
You can do it, but it doesn't really gain you anything you'd notice. You still have to swing the heavy flywheel, and you still have most of the magnetic drag. 2 running regulators is insurance so you don't have to give up if one quits.
