View Full Version : STV Euro Ski Set back
I'm running a 6" Rapid Jack on my STV Euro and am in the process of changing jack plates. I was wondering if anyone has ever ran 7" of set back on an Euro. If so how did it work? I talked with Chuck @ Hydro Dynamics today and he recommended a 7". I actually called to go with a 5" since that seems to be real popular on the Euro. So, now I'm confused as to which way to go. I don't have any issues with my 6". Just wondering if I'm leaving anything on the table that I can have by changing set backs. I was going to get a 6" Hydraulic. Now I going to wait on that since I'm unsure about how much set back.
Any feedback would be great. Thanks

I would imagine that a 1" or 2" difference won't give you much. I run 6" on my Pro Comp and like it much better than on the transom.
I have 5 and wish I had gone with 6 maybe 7. However, I am 255lbs and have to try to get the bow up a bit more than someone with less weight. I would pm helmut, I can't think of anyone who has tried as much and gotten as much success out of his setup on an stv euro.
Fish,
Thanks, I actually did PM Helmut. He responded to one and I'm waiting on the second one which was a direct question about the 7". I'll let you know what he says. Hopefully he has tried the 7" Last time I spoke to him he went from a 4" to a 5.5" I never asked if that worked out for him. Don't know if he has tried the 7" or not.
Thanks!

I never really seen any big difference in speed adjusting the set back. I tried 4" and 6" setbacks on my 98 euro with a hot motor and there wasnt much difference in speed except with passengers. thats when the few extra inches helped. The 2000 euro I have now is much lighter and has a little less power (but not for long) and has 5.5" setback. The big numbers are in the engine hieght. Hydraulic is the only way to get it up to the max. With a manual plate you would loose water pressure long before you got up to speed.
Rc1 if you have all the speaker stuff up front and carry people then go with the 7" it will be a little better than the 6".
Thanks Helmet. I'll try it. Worst case I'll put it on here to sell and try different size. I'm hoping to find a size that I like and then I'll go with the hydraulic.
Thanks again. I'll let you know how it works
