Can someone help me? I have a 1981 225 Merc.It has a lot of port work.The carbs WH22's.It is running to rich.I am running .084 main jets.They came in it when i got it.(used)I put .078 mains in it, and it lean the plugs up alot!Is that to big of a change?I'm not getting a good reading on the plugs.I'm to scared to let go of the gas at a high rate of speed!!!

you can always take out more fuel, take to much and it's guna stick, you should be lookin at the piston crown. try .080's,warm it up,make a pull to 6500rpms,
pull the kill, check the crowns.

I use B9HS to get a plug reading as the BUHW will give you a false reading. I also check piston tops as Fast Fred told you .

U don't have to make a "Chop Throttle" to check piston tops....Juss normally back out and not let it idle much...It will not be exzaklly like a chop reed, but it won't change enuff to give a false reed...
Iz it 4 stroke'in on top end??...
Jeff naul ussa run a 225, 14peddle, non fingerported mota in SS, and I thank he wuz in tha mid 70's on jets(wh-22's) and sumpth'in like 68-70 in tha idle's...No vents...
Don't make such a big jump in reduce'in jets, U will burn it down....make .002 changes at a time...the mota will react to .002 change...U have to set up a system to reed speed and rpm...drop out .002, and if the rpm stay's the same, then go back up.002...the mota will stop react'in on the "Bubble"....002 above the "Bubble" iz one the safe side!!
