Does anyone run some sort of air filter on the race Mercs? Mine just has a great big hole in the cowling right behind the front plaque if you will. We have alot wind here that blows dirt and sand around. Just wondering if this is supposed to have some sort of filter or if I can get one somewhere.

What do you guys do??

Thanks, Shawn

keep the horn covered with something till you go out and play. never heard of a filter being used as i'm sure it would hurt performance.

Mercury never made one. They would rather sell you a $600 set of ring each year.

I am sure you are right as I understand the performance part. Just seems strange that this motor would be easily susceptible to dirt and other crap entering the motor. My first motor over a Promax 225 so I was just wondering. Thanks

Bare in mind that water is like a giant dirt magnet, and also there's no way to stir up dust out on the water. I've never seen a significant build up of any type of particles on the intake side of any of my engines.

I am sure you are right. Just seems strange to me as all the motors I had in the past were picking up air behind the cowl and usually from a rearward direction so as not to catch any crap. Makes sense though. Thanks
