I havent tried to get out the broken fittings on the block yet. NEWBEE QUESTION, are these lines really needed? Also on the very bottom of the intake inthe center there is a single 1/4" hose coming out 1" and bends down 90* 1"...it looks like a drain . but at the same time it would seem to be a place for #6 to suck air & run extra lean on #6 only

These hoses are reccomended because they prevent lo-end bogging, if you block them then when you are idiling liquid fuel can pool before the reeds then when you go to throttle up motor could load up, bog down and cut out (too rich).
Hose on the bottom should be drain for breather box, that one you can block off, otherwise connect to breather.( does not affect performance)

wouldnt tis cause #6 to run lean? a open hose running strait to behind the reeds?

It's not supposed to be open. If there's no airbox, block it off.

it does have the air box..maybee thats why the #6 rod bearing seised up on the guy I got it from not too long after he had the carbs rebuilt,

That bottom fitting is for a drain FROM the airbox. Fuel pools up in the airbox from the carbs spitting out a little while it's running or from fuel spiliilg out when you tilt the motor up when it's not running. The airbox drains to the bottom fitting on the motor which leads to the bottom fitting. This fitting will NOT make #6 run lean. It can allow the oil out of the bottom crank bearing, starving it of oil, but I have never seen that bearing go bad because of the hose being off.

The # 6 rod bearing failure was due to another cause. How did that piston look?

the piston looks great!!!! The guy I got the motor from said he was running it wot than backed it off for a no wake zone, then it just started dropping rpms quickly to nothing..... would not restart..it was on a 19" astroglass, 2 people 50-1 premix, 21 p prop, with 1.875" carbs recently rebuilt

This bottom fitting, can you take a picture of it and post it here...... you could be describing the pulse fitting for the VRO....if that is the case, then it's possible that is the cause, but strange the piston didn't scuff first. Another cause can be water ingestion.

I'v tried posting before, even with the "posting link" I dont think it's the vro line, thats on the side of te intake this line is directly centered to the front
