View Full Version : Hanging a V6 Merc by the Flywheel for a week+...is it OK?

Does anyone know if it'll hurt to hang a V6 Merc by the Flywheel...using the Merc engine puller "eyebolt", if I leave it like that for a period of time?
Just worried about the bearings,etc.
It's handy to store it like this on a cherry picker, if it won't hurt anything, while I do the rest of my "dinkin around" with the other boats.
Thanks

Greg just make sure the cherry picker can't leak down.

I did that once and when I came back a week later the motor was on the ground.

To be safe why don't you lay two 2 by 4s across the legs of the hoist and rest the engine down on them?

Hey Greg,
I'm doing fine , I thought after I retired from EXXON my work load would ease up but it seemed to have double I'm still working 10-12 hour days 6 days a week... How have you been ? I haven't seen much of you on the board , hope everything is OK with you and yours...

Jay.

My ProMax is hangin and I've done this many times over the years but I allways put a piece of board under and let the skeg just touch the wood. And ditto to rpm--watch that the picker doesn't leak.

NOPE NOT ME!:D
Just an active imagination.

Just a few revolutions and it fires off. A split second later the fuel hose rips out of the can flinging gas every where. Next the battery cables have twisted up, lifting the battery and.............we have ignition!

Speed shop hangs cranks ..... not standing. You lay a boat up side down. Things break if not treated right. Just what I have seen.;) Drink from the bottom.
