question on 3.0 SM

Finally was able to get the Bullet20DC all rigged and ready for the
new season. Even got the new power started and running great.
Got a question tho. I was running her on the hose and put it in gear
and I hear a clunking in the SM LU. Not loud just there. It kinda goes
away when I raise the idle to 2000 I was ready to pull it But I took
off the prop and it went away. This is a fat shaft with the solid SS hub
Another clue maybe is I put oil in the LU and she took a hell of a lot more than 22oz. more like 32 till it came out the vent. I attributed it to the unit was completely dry so I drained it to see what it would take after the gears were wetted and the housing had oil all over it. Drained and refilled and it took all of it again. Where in the heck is it going. New to these 3.0 lt LU the book says 22oz where is the rest going.

All lower units rattle and clank when on the hose with a SS prop @ idle. It is the clutch dogs banging back and forth due to the heavy prop with no load on it. They will also do it in the water if your idle is too low. This is all normal.

The book is wrong. Mine uses the same amount. Fill till it runs out the top hole. Then burp it after you run under load....done:D
