The only parts you really need to stay away from is Sierra.

Can you explain why?

Everything I've used made by Sierra, from head gaskets to water pumps has given me problems. They may be fine for regular fishing motor usage, but I've never had good luck with their parts. I'll have to find the picture of the motor that had a Sierra head gasket let go, not pretty. My opinion.

i use sierra head gaskets on my 1993 2.5 mercs with no problems, reed gaskets, carb gaskets, when i do my yearly inspection carb cleaning, reed check, minus head gaskets. every spring, and water pump kits, impellers look fine after 25 hours,i change them anyway, hi perf syn blend gear lube in the cle's, knock on wood no problems. you sure thats the problem? the price is not inflated like merc parts.

I had to get a starter from sierra a few weeks ago because Mercury was out of stock. It worked for half a day before the drive bound up on the shaft in the down position. My customer was able to pry it up, take it off the shaft, install a washer under it and install a new one to get him going for a Sunday Tournament. I'll stick with Mercury parts, much more reliable. This isn't my first problem with an "exact replacement" after market part.

Still doesn't say anything about the rings.
The very first aftermarket rings about 15 years ago were moly filled and did have some problems. The ring design was changed and I know of no problems in the last decade +.
While OEM parts can be superior in some cases, Mercury also depends on outside vendors for their parts and cost is a big part of the equation. Who ultimately sells the part has very little bearing on the matter. Fair is fair.

Their rings may be very well be fine. I'm just sayin that everything else of theirs I've used is not up to par.

I used a sierra intake gasket and base gasket one time. The paper in my computer printer would have been better quality.
