View Full Version : 2.4 bp pistons
 about a year ago i picked up a 1984 stv.. from the get go it has been a budget project.. its been instilled in my head the way to go was a bridgport.. ive collected 1 powerhead.. 1 block.. 2 lowers .. 2 mids an old 2.4 225 complete and a xr2 150 .. all in the name of building said bad ass budget motor....up until yesterday ive been over exited about being able to collect every last part.... then the bomb droped.... no pistons.. no longer availabe.. as you can imagine my mouth droped to the floor, and i walked out dragging my feet... when i got home i called 2 more respected marina's in my area and was told exactly the same thing.....:( NOW WHAT.. has anyone been through this.. with all of the different piston manufacturers out there.. how can this be... what has everyone else done..

Juss git tha vertex pistons from Pro and machine a lil spot wher tha bridge is...U kan also drill a couple small holes to help cool the bridge!!....
U may also check on sum ov thoze pistons Rodney Nance haz haz(kan't remember tha name ov them), but they were test'in sum 2.4 pistons...don't know if they have them yet...
Tha BP piston ain't a special piece, juss had a lil flat spot down tha side wher tha bridge iz!!

just like t-rex said. no problem. just a flat spot. you can also work on the ports too. us1 can top pin, flat spot, port work, balance, ETC.
no biggie man
so what yer telling me is the ovel port pistons will work???? what about.. where the ring splits.. is there a difference ,cant split in a port...and what about the hole in the piston???for the ports.. is this the same isent there 2 totelly different ovel port pistons.. or is there 3.. as far as piston porting .. and no finger ports.. i would really like to see what has been done.. hell id like to see a stock bp piston.. then compare it to one of the ones yer talking about.. thanks for the reply "T" IM JUST A LITTLE FREEKING...
im ok with drilling the bleed holes .. to lube the bridge .. ive done this for other bridged motors...but if i gotta send em out.. there goes the budget..i think im gunna need some very graffic details guys...but hey thanks for releasing some of the aggrevation.....

They are all the same. You will have no trouble getting pistons that fit the BP. I built two 2.4 BPs this week with Wiseco pistons.

I can send you an old service bullitin describing the mod procedure if you are interested.
russ. that would be greatly appreciated. i see that the diameter, and distince from pin to top is same.. but my concern is. the port in the piston and the location of the locater pins. the work to cool the bridge doesent seem too big of a deal....thanks guys.. im not even kidding about freeking out... like ive learned alot from this site.. weve talked about everything from cutting the exhaust chest, decking the heads.ride hieght...cant remember one thing about no factory pistons.....

Jay, I am gitt'in that yo concern ov wher tha pins are iz from thank'in tha ports are differnt from tha BP to tha other 2.4's...They ain't...The only differnce iz the exhaust is wider, thus a bridge to keep the rings from hang'in...ALL THE PORTS ARE LOCATED IN THE SAME PLACE, AND THE PINS IN THE PISTONS ARE ALL IN THE SAME PLACE(other than top pin ov corse)...Even Mercury decided to make one piston/cyl fit all....
yea .."T" that was my concern.. the locater thing...i guess by the time i got home and started lookin at chit ..i had gottin my self pretty worked up.. now that i know what my options are.. the extra hundo a hole is just a bit of a setback... now im fighting the urge to jus run it...as is... i never even did a compression test.. bought it with the heads off.(to prove it was good). i planed on new guts before i bought it... now im thinkin hmmmmmmm....
