OMC adhesive M substitute

I am installing a new water pump and having a hard time keeping the seal in place. The directions call for OMC adhesive M substitute to hold the seal into the housing. I don't have a dealer close to buy the omc product. Is there a substitute product that I can use?

I use marine grease. It works better in my opinion. I even use it to install the impeller into the housing.
