I got a 2000 Mercury Pro Max 225 EFI. I would like to bump the rev limiter up some from the factory setting. I easily hit the 6850rpm mark. I know you can send out the digital ecu to get it reprogrammed but a guy who races told me that there is other ways of doing it. Can anyone fill me in on this. Also with moving the rev limiter up I would need to do away with the oil injection. How much of a process is involved with doing that and is there any other things that would need to be done. Any other mods that anyone could suggest. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

be very careful when you do this. they are very suspect to blow when you remove the rev limiter because you tend to not let off the gas.

You can have Jay Smith cut the heads for ya, not much trouble taking the oil injection off, Sean at Rapiar can move your limiter, BUT your biggest problem is the side pinned pistons. There are many many posts on the board regarding this IT ISN"T IF BUT WHEN the side pins WILL come out of your pistons and your engine is in big trouble!! You might want to do a search regarding top pinned pistons. Been there done that my two cents

I wanted to get the rev limiter bumped up to like 7600-7800. I don't think I would get in trouble there would I? Anyone know how much it is to get that bumped at Rapair. What could cutting the heads do and how much money and any numbers on performance? Thanks for the help.

I think most guys opt for 7250rpm with the cast pistons. Also odds are your motor also has the plastic caged rod bearings. You will have to go through a CDI dealer to get the work done on the box, I think it runs around $250.00
