If the splines of a prop/hub are cut down so the prop can be used on a OMC will it damage the prop shaft of a Merc:confused:

I have never seen a problem with useing the shorter splines on a Mercury shaft. I quess if you ran in rough water with the prop in and out of the water there is a chance of stripping the splines out of an alum. hub or twisting a shaft because of the short spline area but again, I've never seen either happen and have ran many of them.

That's what I was concerned about! there being a potential problem of striping out my prop shaft because of the shorter splines:confused:
Thanks, Lee:)

Ran a Triton II for years on Shadow bassboat. Just make sure you have a merc prop washer that fits prop.

its a non issue, just keep it well lubed, the splines in the hub of the prop are softer(brass) than the hardened steel and will wear if not removed and lubed bout once a month of normal use.. new FLOWTORQUE style hubs dont have much more spline ingagement than a drilled hub and they dont have any problems

I agree, you won't have a problem with it. i've used a omc srx prop on my boat never had a problem with it.

Thanks guys...I forgot about the fact the hub is brass and the prop shaft is steel. Makes me feel better about useing this type of prop.:)
