Just 1 question why would you not put a 300x or a 2.5 on this boat.

If you have the funds for the boat how do you not have for the motor. It's like having a new corvette with a 6 cyl motor in it.

I really like the venom. Probably need some setback with a 150. Ask DCI, he obviously knows alot about that boat with the success he has had.

Top end, with the right prop, about 4" set back, will see about 70 mph. Cooling water will be a problem w/o low water pick-ups. Then again you will go by the rest of us at the gas docks a couple times per weekend.

Thank you for your responses.
The reason for the question (should have stated it in my first post) is for insurance reasons. If my insurance company had its way then 45 mph would be top speed, end of story. I carry a fair bit of liability coverage (want to keep this level of coverage) and as a result they are giving me a hard time on top end speeds. I believe I can push them to 65, maybe, 70 mph. This would have to be a no bs number, motor stock, motor mounted conservatively, stock prop and top speed calculated when the boat is trimmed out. Believe me, you all know that if something were to happen the insurance company would go to any length to try and discover that the boat was capable of a higher top end then I had stated. I did send an email yesterday to Hydro Stream, Jim Contzen was kind enough to reply to my question.
"While we have often discussed and even offered the Venom with a 150, it has never been tested. Based on the performance of a Venom with a stock 175 Pro XS, 72/75 mph with the engine mounted low, but trying to get some top end speed, I would estimate a Venom with a stock 150 to run in the 60/65 mph range. The boat could be slowed down with the use of a smaller prop which would cause the engine to hit a electronic limiter.
There are also some smaller engines that could be used to hold the speed down. Sorry to say, but the Venom is VERY efficient, it's running surface and overall design was designed for speed. The obvious second benefit to small HP on a Venom would most likely be incredible fuel efficiency with still average to above average performance, and that AWESOME LOOK!
Please let me know if you have any additional questions."

I can get to around 85 with a 150 XR4 on an SS2000 (87 on the speedo). That is with a nosecone. But with the engine low and a little 24 Laser, I can still run low 70's.
Maybe the SS is still the king of light power, or maybe the Venom would be faster than estimated above with 150.
Why a little motor on a fast boat? How fast is enough? And do you want to get there efficiently or through brute power? My speed is enough for me.

Thats cool man those numbers sound real good for a 150hp but a venom needs big power for the 100+ speeds.

ya we had a 1994 xr6 carb 2.5 150 on a 98' xb2002 and it would run 85-86 on gps w/ a 26 big ear chopper box stock no l/w pick up 4" below the pad 5" set back

I insure my stock Venom with a stock 280 for 510 dollars a year with Foremost In my opinion this is the best set up for the boat and insurance # can't be beat.
