Hey guys just wondering, I was planning to go with white gel coat on the bottom and awlgrip on top. Is it worth adding that duratech with the gel coat? Just wondering and also what's a good primer to use. i was thinking the 545 primer from awlgrip would be best i guess.

1 pint of duratec to a gallon of clear, thin with a good medium paint reducer at 5 to 10%. makes it much easier to shoot, IMO.

if you are using awl-grip I would go with their epoxy primer too. :D

so basically one pint for 1 gal of gel. You gotta see the pad now. Looks sweet. He did a really good job sanding the boat down and fixing the pad. Now you could tell its a concave pad. :D

Is this good info??

What sprayer/tip combinations, what pressure is required?
You can use a Gravity Feed, Siphon, Pressure Pot or Plural Component type equipment. The tip sizes vary depending on application. For Primers, use a .015-.021 with plural component equipment and for Gravity or Siphon use .070-.110 (1.8mm - 2.7mm). For Hi-Gloss, use .015-.018 with plural component equipment and for Gravity or Siphon use .060-.080 (1.5mm - 2.0 mm). Air pressure should be between 38 - 42 PSI but can be 35 - 50 PSI

you can use the $16 guns for the gel/primer... and a better one for the awlgrip.

Bad news... i couldnt get it painted.i had to take the gun apart numerous of times to clean it. The gun will get clogged very easy. It's kinda impossible to paint a boat with gelcoat with a gravity fed gun. Has anyone used a gun called the ES G100??

So i painted the top yesterday and everything wasnt going right from the beginning. There were some spots that had fingerprints when i was painting and to top it off when i was taking out the boat outside so the sun could hit a big gust of wind just lifted up the paper that was covering the sides of the boat and rubbed all over the paint. Now i have to let it dry and go with a 320 grit and start all over. Atleast it has a good base

This thread is 4 years old. He has already sunk the boat, ran it, and sold it. :D

I'm pretty sure it was Aristo Blue Awlgrip. It looked good, and different than the usual royal or marine blue you see on boats.
