Thanks for ansewers on the reeds. I'm currently using a 8in. manual jackplate on my 79 vector, 200 merc. I've read on the Hydrostream registry advise from Randy Peirson, he suggests bolting the engine to the transom in the 4th or 5th hole. he says that the balance will be much better therefore making it easier to drive. Every vector on this site uses a jackplate. I don't want to lose the ability to change height easily and I really like the look of a boat with a jackplate. should I follow his advise? or leave the plate on, or switch to a 4in. plate thats sitting in my garage.

take the 4" and flip the back mount bracket sucks the motor back to the boat and u still have the jack plate it give you like 2 to 2 1/2 "set back like that thats how mine is done and it works great
