View Full Version : steering shaft removal tool for merc clamp

looking for something to remove the 1 7/16 nut on the steering shaft for 15in merc clamp. fyi-the nut has the steering shaft still in the way and the nut ,its recessed into the clamp.a normal socket will not fit.anybody know what to use or where to get it?

as before gring the outside. some socket [the better quality one] are thinner. sears sockets are smaller in od then home depot one..... i usuall take a cheap one and grind it.

Find a snap on socket they have the thinnest walls. Had to use to remove starters on the old 140 mercruiser nothing else would fit. Rick
