i see some guys running carb motors with very little electronics on em. i.e. no voltage regulator, hi/low spark advance module. i am sure there is an advantage on a drag motor but is there a disadvantage to run it like this on a lake motor?

You want to keep the voltage regulator to keep the battery from popping on you..... idle stabilzer never did any good unless you troll a lot...... hi/lo.....your choice

I don't run a voltage regulator because I also run an electric fuel pump 24/7 while the boat is running. Just the pump used to drain the batteries before I pulled the regulator off.... now I have no problems.

Lose the advance module. Keep the regulator. If you need any help with anything I can stop by and give you a hand.

It maintains mine just fine, AND TWO amplifiers to boot..........did I say I like my music LOUD ??

But, I do charge my battery every night when I get in..............

Did you know that you CAN pull start with a light weight flywheel bolted on?

(thats another story though)
