I have a merc v-6, the serial # is 6033476. There is a # on the side of the crank case where the front meets the block, it is 21883 278-1. What year and hp. Any info would be great. Thanks Jody

If Mercury parts express were up, you could get the lowdown on your engine from just the serial number. Maybe your local Mercury dealer can still do that.

Midas says it's a 200 tween 78 and 88.
Best I could do.

The motor has vertical reed. Did Merc make a 200 with vert reeds? Jody

Yes and that means it's probably much closer to a 78 than an 88.

According to the Mercury starting serial # guide, Your motor is a 200 hp. It is an 80 or 81 model. In 1980 and 81 merc used the same starting serial number for both years. Any serial # between 5464486 and 6033518 could be an 80 or 81. Considering your number is at the high side of this range, I would definitely consider it an 81. (6033519 and up is an 82)

Hope this helps.

Would That Be A 2.0 Or A 2.4? Jody

No mention of Liters in manual or on Elec. parts catalog. 142 cubic inch displacement (2327cc) wich converts to 2.3L Mercury wasn't very good at identifying their motors in Liters but when you call tech services that is usually the first thing they ask- figures! Hope this doesn't add confusion.
