This Migh Help ! ;)
Thanks Laker.....
After I soak each cylinder with penetrating oil how can I try to turn the fly wheel? Is it 'safe' to tap it with something to break it free or will that do damage? Is there any safe way to try to break the pistons free through the spark plug holes?
thanks Jerry ......

After soaking Kroil in the cylinders for about a min or two you will be able to pull the motor over by hand. I Have had some very stuck motors and in about one min they come loose with kroil... If only the cylinders were stuck then many times you can try to run it. If the bearings rusted up in the crank then your need to tear it down. Good luck!

I would keep tryin' to turn the flywheel... back and forth. If you hit the piston
with force, you can break the ring lands (depending on how stuck they are)
Back and forth!

I had an old truck engine with rings that had been stuck for years. Burned as much oil as gas. 10 minutes of silikroil fixed it. Amazing stuff.

Can't get Kroil in Britain - how different is it to things like WD40 or PlusGas - or even 3 in 1 oil?

I prefer BP Blaster. For bulk jobs I use plain old kerosene.
A lot of times you get the pistons free before the rings and you can jiggle the flywheel back and forth working the oil into the ring lands
The last resort tool is a spark plug converted to a grease fitting ... on the cylinder closest to TDC you pump in grease with a grease gun ... that piston goes down ... even if nothing else moves ... can get scarry:eek:

Heated transmission oil is a good alternative..... Use a flywheel holder (NAPA) to turn the flywheel. You should also be able to get a socket on the flywheel nut. Check to make sure something is not wrong in the lower unit. If the motor was outside or in an unheated garage and there was water in the lower unit it could be frozen. Good luck.

Yes, Only online.
And their is NOTHING That comes close for freeing rusted parts. NOTHING.
Hey Tinker- I never bothered to check the gear case
It looks like that is the issue (or both).
I can't even get the case off....
The gear case is shot (found a hole that was poorly patched over and painted), so I'm not worrying about damaging it.
Is it possible that the splines are frozen into the head?
Is there any way to get Kroil or something to the splines to try to free it up?
Or any other tricks for getting the gearcase off? I've wacked it with a rubber mallot and a small sledge hammer a few hundred times and it won't give.
