Myself being known to have a large one from time to time.
But a lot od people have some that are just to large.
Even hosted is creating loading porblems.
This site has enough junk to load never mind all these huge signatures.
It''s just over kill!
Some have 3 pics and they are large ones!
IMO!

Just go to user control panel and turn them off.

I think the very large ones are obnoxious.
Especially when they the push the text past the side of the screen and you have to use the scrollbar to read the remaining posts.
I still want to see the reasonable ones or the site gets boring.

Its real easy to add a pict that will make any thread 10 feet wide. That would really mess things up.
Barry is right. there is a setting in your control panel that turns off all all avitars and signatures.

500pix wide X 150 tall with no more than 3 lines of text. or no pic and 8 lines of text. its a pretty standard thing.
Its real easy to add a pict that will make any thread 10 feet wide. That would really mess things up.
Case in point: Lance, your wide signature pic makes this whole thread already have a horizontal scroll bar on my display. Everyone doesn't have a 19" monitor with tiny icons like yours.
It depends on the individual user's display settings, but like 1Bad says, 500 px is plenty wide enough.
If anyone here is really that attention-starved, just post the huge pix elsewhere and put a link to it.

I tried not to have mine too wide. I have a 12" laptop screen and it does not
add the horizontal scroll bar, but maybe others are different.
That's because your laptop is probably set to its native resolution.
If I set up the crappy monitors at the shop that way, I'll have two old guys on my ass about it, because they cannot see the tiny icons and 1-pixel-wide letter fonts.
Lots of people still surf the web with monitors that aren't even capable of more than 800x600 resolution, where we set ours. Yours is probably at 1024x768 or higher, so there's no scroll bar.

turn the DPI setting to 125 or 150% and that wont be a problem :p

Thanks. I have now changed my screen to 800x600 and adjusted my new Signature to fit. Note: that anyone using 800x600 resolution will have to scoll left to right anyways, but now my new sig. wont make them scroll any further than they allready had to. ( Ya make me feel like a Democrat !!) Kinda pandering to the lowest level. Are you still using one of those screes that only shows green text ??
Yeah, I actually feel bad for convincing you to re-size it. I might be the only one here who ever views any of this in 800x600!
The new sig pic looks good.
True, in 800x600 mode, I still have to scroll the bar to the right to push the ad-banner column off the page so I can read the thread. With the addition of a large image somewhere on the page, I also have to scroll it back and forth while I'm reading, because the text itself will spill off the screen.
Last week I encountered a member who must have left some stray HTML code in his signature, it was causing every page the he posted on to become super-scroll wide, as if there was a 2000 px wide picture in a post or sig somewhere, but there wasn't.
It would be super-cool if Greg could figure out a way to make the paragraphs of thread text automatically "wrap" (carrage return) at a certain fixed point to keep the text from scrolling to the full width of the page's widest image.

there are V-bulletin sites that do this. there are also sites that automatically resize to a pre-set width when someone posts an ignorantly large pic.

Look at the part where it says... SHOW SIGNATURES. Unclick that box.
I've had mine turned off for a long time. You "AL" was one of the first ones to have a friggin' sig a mile dang long. :D

Does mine Mess up everyones screen??I don't want to piss off anyone here with my signature
yours is way too long ("tall"). Takes up a lot of space and makes the reader scroll more. One view is plenty. Crop it down so there's less wasted background area, with the subject cropped down. If you MUST have two views of the same boat, use Photoshop to put them into ONE image, with the two pictures side-by-side.
Like this would be ideal:
http://img147.imageshack.us/img147/6597/streamal4.jpg (http://imageshack.us)
Put this code in bracketed IMG tags and put it in your sig:

I think this subject needs to be revisited.
Did the Obama administration say we had to?
We using to much INTERNET space?
Leaving to big a print of the INTERNET constellation?
thats about the only way it's gonna happen.
