i already shipped one in a card board box a couple of times. cut a piece of 1/2" plywood for the bottom of the box. wrap up the case with something so the skeg and cone dont take a beating and i leave the drive shaft out the top with a card board shipping tube over it and tape it all together the best i can. i used UPS both times. good luck shawn

The Merc dealer I have here never has anything! I doubt if they'll have a box
for a lower. I'll try to box it like cypress and see.

Go to a Bike shop and get a bike box. Bike shops throw them out everyday. They're usually 45 - 55 inches long and They're the perfect width and length for shipping lowerunits. FEDEX ground is used to seeing them and they have good handles for moving around. You can surround the lower unit with extra cardboard and slide a long HD protective cardboard tube or swimming noodle over the shaft. You can as creative as you want. Also Steve (on this site) tipped me off to another fantastic shipping material . . . Find a local newpaper in your town and ask them for a few end rolls. Those two tips should fix you up.

I agree with Tom. I bought one of the cases that Cypress was talking about and, mine was kind of like what Tom described---skeg skined up pretty good!---It wasn't Shawns falt! He did a very good job packing the case just not UPS proof!  :D

If your gonna ship it UPS then get a sheet of 1/2 steel plate then weld a box together the put the lower in it and inject molded plastic into the box through a small diameter hole and then seal the hole up, otherwise it will be destroyed. Trust me, them jackasses have cost me a lot of busted chit recently.

I think the 'steel safe' is a good way to ship! I got a price on shipping...
does $1288.00 sound like alot?

I've found Fed Ex Ground to be very reasonable on the price, and time. I've sent props and gearcase's and knock on wood everthing arrived in one piece.

Dat box looks good enough to be a piece of furniture. If you wasn't in Calofornia, I'd ask you for dat for a book case.

Mike,
It's a good thing you didn't ship the whole motor, you might have built a house to put it in.
