I have been told that 24 skaters are 5-10mph faster than 25 motions is this true with equal horsepower and at equal weight? I know alot of the race 24s are lighter than the motion 25, I have been told the bottoms are the same? witch one of the two handles the rough stuff better? were does the motion fall at in the mix with skaters , talons, eliminators etc. thanks
I thought the 25 is a splash of the 24?

boy have you opened a can of worm's
all I'm going to say is there all good just depends on how much $$$$$ you have to waste.......theres a reason everyone wants Skaters and why they hold ther value....... but I know an old 87 pleasure Skater that ran a 103 with OLD 200's in it's stock factory form....figure a 20 year old boat going 100+ with all origanal parts...........compare that.........

In 1987 you could go 100+ but - NOW - It's 45 (And if you do not like it tuff $hit) now matter how much you have to spend!!!!!!!!!!!:( :( :(
So any Motion in Pa is Faster then any Skater in New Hampshire!!:p :p
How's that for popcorn!!

Hottrucks you say theirs a reason skaters hold their value, when I was looking to buy, the 24 skaters and 25 motions seemed to be priced about the same when compared to same year model. I was looking for either just happend to find a motion I liked before a 24 skater did not want to open a can of worms justed wanted to know the big diffrence between the two if their was one!

Fluid trying to find two boats of the same year and set up is tough enough....my opinion is the Skater is a better built boat with a proven design and thats why they have been copied so many times by so many people.....when I say compare that I mean almost all the cpoys are of later model stuff....IE: last 24 Skater built was in 95 first one was (I believe) 85 so if you could find a ,???????? of the same year with a simalar history then we could compare....so much has to do with the history of them...I was very fortunate to find a 20 year old boat that was unmolested...but it's still 20 years old.....If I had newer power I think I could hang with some of the newer brands...but I'm poor and love that my boat is the way it is...funny thing is so is Peter.......

Just so you have your Shiiit straight the speed limit in NH ( IF it PASSES) is for one lake and one lake only......hard to believe but the reason they got it was because it's one of the biggest tourist traps around and theres to many Jackass's from other states that have no F'n clue what the hell there doing.......but since I avoid thata place it doesn't effect me at all ...So please feel free to bring any of your old junk over to NH and have your asss handed to ya..........or wait do you even have a boat???? never mind talk is cheap...............

what I rally wanted to know is what is the big diffrence between the two if the motion is a copy of the 24 skater and what supposedly makes the 24 faster, does the 25 handle the rough stuff as good or better being that is a little longer and heavier?

The 25 Motion isn't really longer.....they just call it a 25, it's a 24 copy. It is heavier though.

Racemore has written his experiance racing 25 Motion against 24 Skaters here , Motions have a wider tunnel "step" makes the tunnel more narrow higher up , maybe a little more air resistance here. The front of the tunnel on the deck are not rounded of as nicely as the skater , can make the deck lift less. Have never tryed a Skater 24 but my Motion flyes flat in the air in jumps at high speed with the 260s , I am a little worried about how the balance will be with the 250xs ,I am buying now.I belive Motion 25 has more weight forward in the boat ,likes more trim . Seems like the Motion likes more setback ,lifts and big dia props .Motion 25 use alu gas tanks .
I did not know it was a copy of the 24 skater when i bought it ,never great to be a copy.....

The 25 Motion was splashed off of the 24' Skater "Crime Buster" around 1987 when a small company called Motion in Sarasota/St Pete was hired to repaint the S class raceboat........the rest is history. I LOVE MY 1987 24' SKATER

To answer your question, I have heard that the 25 motion handels rough water a little better because of the weight and the cg being a little farther forward, And it is 25 feet the back was streched a foot longer and the dash is farther forward. I had a friend that raced a 25 motion so i know the boat .As most of you know the deck is different as well. But i have owened a 24 skater for over 20 years and it is known to be a faster boat and without a dought a better built boat and would not trade it for the motion , not even a question i would think about. My boat is worth more now than it was bought for new in the mid 80's

To answer the original question, the first few years of Jay Palini's 25 Motion's were known to be a couple miles per hour faster than the Skater counterpart.

thanks for the feed back guys didnt really know much on the history of either one, so far I really like my motion and I only use it on an inland lake, sounds like the skater is a awsome boat also!

The skater may? be a little faster. Maybe one day I will ride up on one and will find out for sure. And it prolly is a better built boat. However I do think the motion looks better. The console is nicer ( no cables exposed) and I like the way the front comes to a point rather than the round front. But I own a motion so I could be a little partial. I would be glad to own either though

I raced a 25 motion in the early 90's when Jay Pellini produced them. Spanked a bunch of Skater in rough water , have since owned both and they both have good and bad days....It is all in the set up. Good luck with this subject but if you get to FL. come take a ride in an old Motion.

The motion was made off a 1984 or 1985 named smooth operator Raced by ANDY FROST AND STEVE CARRIER. My dad helped JAY with a few ideas in the process.Didnt seem 2 be faster but wasnt slower seemed 2 be less 4giving in the porpose zone 55-80.
My dad also had 3 of the 1st 12 25 Motions built by JAY:thumbsup:

Both boats are nice. I like the lines of the Motion better. That Motion of yours Shaun rocked with 2.5 200s'. I only remember one hop during acceleration and then it was flying. But what do I know I bought a Talon!lol Bob
